Axe: How Fran Brown is handling 2 key SU football injuries; Meet Nick Williams (podcast)

Syracuse, N.Y. —Some bumps and bruises are starting to show for the Syracuse University football team, taking away two key targets for quarterback Kyle McCord to work with in spring practice.

Wide receiver Jackson Meeks and tight end Oronde Gadsden II will miss the rest of spring practice. Meeks will undergo surgery this week to repair a hairline fracture in his foot while Gadsden II had screws removed from his foot following surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury.

Brent Axe and Emily Leiker discussed how Fran Brown is handling those injuries and more on the latest episode of Syracuse Sports presented by Crouse Health.

Head Coach Fran Brown describes some of the standouts from SU’s first scrimmage over the weekend and his approach to holding out Meeks and Gadsden.

Brent points out a few key recruits that visited over the weekend and Emily shares observations from a lot of time spent with the Orange defensive line.

You’ll also hear from new Syracuse edge coach Nick Williams on why he came to Syracuse, including a neat story of a chance encounter with Fran Brown. Williams is rated by 247 Sports as one of the best recruiters in the country. You’ll hear Williams describe what his recruiting philosophy is and how he relates to his players.
