Following press conferences at Niagara Falls State Park and the steps of city hall, rock legend Gene Simmons had one more stop to make in the city on Sunday.
Simmons of the Grammy-nominated band KISS stopped by the Niagara Falls Boulevard Tops store to surprise a lucky fan — Wayne Altemoos of Olcott who was presented with an autographed plaque commemorating the one-millionth bottle of MoneyBag Sodas, which was sold at Tops.
Altemoos entered into an online social media contest conducted by Tops earlier this month hoping to win autographed memorabilia, but had no idea that Simmons himself would be there presenting the prize along with a plentiful supply of his son Austin’s favorite MoneyBag flavor soda (cream soda), courtesy of Tops. Thanks to his son Austin’s love for MoneyBag Sodas, they had two entries in the contest, Tops officials said.
Tops has been in partnership with Niagara Falls-based Rock Steady Sodas, which produces MoneyBag Sodas, since 2017 and was one of the first major retailers to bring MoneyBag Sodas not only into the Western New York region but also across its chain of stores, staying true to its Tops Loves Local roots.
To date, Tops carries the brand in over 90 Tops locations. Simmons previously visited Tops in Fayetteville, N.Y., to promote the soda line.
