Syracuse, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse quarterback commit LaNorris Sellers was named the starter at South Carolina on Tuesday.

Sellers flipped to his home state school on National Signing Day in December of 2022, spurning the Orange and former offensive coordinator Jason Beck.

His late decision limited Syracuse’s quarterback options last year once Garrett Shrader and Carlos Del Rio-Wilson were hurt, resulting in a run-heavy scheme for the Orange over the final weeks of the season.

Sellers had initially committed to Beck while the coach was at Virginia. He flipped to Syracuse when Beck was hired by the Orange.

Sellers played in three games last year as a true freshman for South Carolina last season, completing the only four passes he threw. All four passes came in a game against Furman. He was the favorite to earn the starting job as a redshirt feshman after entering training camp ahaving been named South Carolina’s “Offensive Player of the Spring.”

He beat out Robby Ashford, who played previously at Oregon and Auburn, and Davis Beville, who played at Pittsburgh and Oklahoma.

Sellers replaces Spencer Rattler, who was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft last season after leading the Gamecocks to a 5-7 record.

Without an established quarterback in place after taking over the program last December, new Syracuse coach Fran Brown secured the services of Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, a cornerstone piece for the coming year.

The Orange will need to identify a quarterback once again before next season.
