Thousands of Syracuse kids receive back-to-school essentials at Mary Nelson’s annual giveaway: Thousands lined up around three blocks in Syracuse Saturday as children waited to get backpacks and school supplies for the school year. Backpacks, school supplies, clothing, food and Amazon mystery boxes were provided to families from all over. “It was beautiful, amazing,” said organizer Mary Nelson, who said it was the biggest giveaway yet.

Destiny USA facing foreclosure after missing loan deadline: The giant Syracuse shopping mall failed to obtain a one-year extension on more than $430 million in overdue mortgage loans, according to the Kroll Bond Rating Agency. As a result, a special servicer overseeing the loans has terminated a forbearance agreement and is “planning enforcement action.”

13-year-old charged with murder in shooting in Syracuse: The boy is accused of shooting 25-year-old Matthew Freeman outside a bar at the Valley Plaza shopping center. The boy charged is among the youngest teens implicated in a murder in recent years in Onondaga County. At 13, he’s just old enough to be charged with murder in New York.

Syracuse’s highest-volume ER gets new $1 million entry area: Crouse Hospital unveiled a new walk-in entrance Friday that it hopes will improve safety and efficiency. The improvements will allow Crouse to see roughly 6,000 more patients a year, a 10% increase, without sacrificing quality, estimated CEO Dr. Seth Kronenberg.
