Syracuse, N.Y. — Police have identified a 25-year-old man who died after being shot at the Valley Plaza Tuesday as Matthew Freeman.
A vehicle was seen picking Freeman up at the plaza on South Salina Street and speeding away, an officer said over dispatch that night. The vehicle was driving “erratically” at a “high rate of speed,” an officer said.
Freeman was later dropped off at the entrance to St. Joseph’s Hospital with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and shoulder, police said.
He died at the hospital, police said.
This is the second person to die after being shot at the Valley Plaza this year. Jamar Mack died after a shooting at the plaza on June 16.
City officials and the plaza’s owner said this week they are working to shut down a bar in that plaza.
A vigil to the victim of Wednesday's homicide victim still flickers on the sidewalk at the Valley Plaza on Thursday, August 15, 2024.Rylee Kirk
