With their 5-1 win over the Twins (24-17) on Tuesday night, the Yankees reclaimed the best record in the American League East. They previously trailed the Baltimore Orioles, but after Baltimore’s Game 2 against the Blue Jays was postponed due to rain on Tuesday, New York was able to take the lead with a win. They are fourth overall in the MLB behind the National League’s Phillies (30-13), Braves (26-13) and Dodgers (29-15).

Ryan Jeffers had a leadoff homer off Carlos Rodon to please the home crowd on Tuesday night, but Rodon wouldn’t let another run go through the next six innings. Meanwhile, Yankees bats caused no end of trouble for Twins starter Chris Paddack, who allowed 12 hits and five runs across five innings pitched.

Giancarlo Stanton’s solo homer in the third was the only home run for New York of the night, but Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo each fired off crucial doubles to run up the score on Paddack.
