Syracuse, N.Y. – A woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal car accident.
Heniyah S. Williams, 22, is accused of hitting Shane Jackson, 35, on the 100 block of West Court Street with a grey 2006 Honda Pilot around 9:20 p.m. on July 5, according to a criminal complaint filed in Syracuse City Court.
Jackson suffered a fractured leg and head injuries, police said at the time. He died at Upstate University Hospital two days after the crash.

In the court documents, police allege that Williams knew or had reasonable cause to know that Jackson was injured in the crash before fleeing the scene. Williams also failed to report the crash to police, according to court documents.
Days after the crash, Syracuse police released a photo of the grey vehicle that was believed to have struck Jackson.
Williams was booked into the Onondaga County Justice Center jail just before 3 p.m. Wednesday.
She is currently being held on $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond, according to county incarceration records.
Jackson had struggled in life but had been on a good path after help from organizations like In My Father’s Kitchen.
John Tumino, president and co-founder of the organization, said Jackson had broken a turbulent cycle and gotten off the streets.
In 2023, Jackson got help finding an apartment and he was given free dentures through a medical care program. When the dentures were finished, Jackson cried, Tumino said.
“He was always trying to make strides to change his behavior,” Tumino said.
