Utica man shot, killed while sitting on front porch, police say

Utica, N.Y. — A Utica man was shot and killed early Saturday morning while sitting on the front porch of his home, police said.

The shooting was reported around 4:15 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Sunset Avenue, according to Lt. Michael Curley, a spokesperson for the Utica Police Department.

A person fired several rounds toward the man on the porch, later identified as Paul Newman, 75, Curley said. Newman was struck once in the chest, he said.

Newman was taken to Wynn Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Curley said.
