Syracuse, N.Y — Organizers are planning for thousands of people to attend to attend a funeral service Monday for an Onondaga County sheriff’s lieutenant killed last weekend in a shootout.
The service for Lt. Michael Hoosock will be Monday at the New York State Fairgrounds. A funeral was held Saturday in Rome for Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen who was killed in the same shootout in Salina.

At 8:30 a.m., a procession will escort a hearse from the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. funeral home, 3401 Vickery Road, Salina to the Expo Center.
The funeral is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at the State Fair Expo Center, according to Thomas J. Pirro Jr, the funeral director.
The funeral is open to the public. It will also be broadcast by news media.
The building’s bleacher seats can hold about 4,000 people. They will add about 2,000 seats in the center, facing the altar. There will be limited standing room available inside the room. There is no formal reservation system, but police and fire officials from as far away as Oregon have called for information.
Overflow crowds will be able to watch a live stream indoors at the state fair’s Coliseum building and outdoors at Chevy Court.
There is plenty of parking at the fairgrounds. The public should enter at Gate 6. A bus will also be available to take people from the upper parking lots, he said.
The Mass will be led by the Rev. Christopher Celentano, of St. Rose of Lima in North Syracuse. Several hundred mourners gathered there Wednesday for a vigil.
The county’s Air 1 helicopter is expected to fly over.
The burial in Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse is private.
Anyone who wants to view the escort to the cemetery can line up along the following route: The procession leaves the state fairgrounds through Gate 12 and takes a left on Bridge Street and continues on Interstate 690 East. They will exit at Bear Street and go to Court Street and on to Assumption Cemetery.
The roads will only be temporarily closed for the procession and then opened.
