Syracuse, N.Y. — Kyle McCord has been named to the preseason watch list for another major award.

The Syracuse football quarterback is one of 50 total players named to watch for the Walter Camp Award, which honors the collegiate American football player of the year per a group of Division I football coaches, sports information directors and with the guidance of the Walter Camp Foundation.

Twenty quarterbacks made the list, the most of any position followed by running backs (11). Both offensive and defensive players can be considered for the award, though it skews toward the latter.

The ACC was well-represented with seven players included. Florida State’s D.J. Uiagalelei, Miami’s Cam Ward and N.C. State’s Grayson McCall were the only other QBs in the conference to receive the honor.

This is the second award McCord has landed on the watch list for. He is also being considered for the Maxwell Award.

McCord transferred to Syracuse in December from Ohio State, where he was starter for the 2023 season. He has 3,776 career passing yards and 27 touchdowns to just eight interceptions.

McCord is expected to lead a pro-style offense for the Orange and increase his impact as a rusher.

Ten semifinalists for the Walter Camp Award will be named in early November, with three finalists to follow Nov. 26. The winner of the 2024 award will be announced at the College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.
