‘Scarface,’ ‘Carlito’s Way’ actor dies at 68
“Carlito’s Way” actor Ángel Salazar is dead at age 68, according to multiple reports.
A rep said he died in his sleep at a friend’s home in Brooklyn, N.Y., over the weekend. A cause of death has not been named, but the rep said Salazar suffered from heart issues.
Salazar was best known for playing Chi Chi, Tony Montana’s best friend and right-man in the 1983 movie “Scarface.” Salazar and Al Pacino reunited in “Carlito’s Way,” the 1993 crime drama that Brian de Palma also directed.
“Rest in peace Angel Salazar ‘chichi’ you were an amazing actor and good friend hermano,” musician Tito Puento Jr. wrote on Instagram. “From scarface to carlito’s way your characters and comedy will be forever missed.”
Salazar’s credits also include more than 40 other movies and TV shows, including “Hot to Trot,” “Harlem Blues,” “Where the Buffalo Roam,” “In Living Color” and “Maniac Cop 2.” He also performed as a comedian and appeared on “Last Comic Standing.”
