The Mets slid for a second straight game on Sunday, falling 10-5 to the Houston Astros, and dropping back below .500 in the process. The game went all the way to 11 innings, despite Luis Severino struggles against the Astros offense, giving up eight hits and four runs across seven innings pitched.

The Mets were able to bounce back and equalize the game despite the Astros’ strong start. Mark Vientos had a two-run double in the 6th inning and Brandon Nimmo smashed his 100th career home run in the 7th to force extra innings. Both teams scored in the 10th, but the Mets bullpen collapsed in the 11th inning around Matt Festa, as the Astros racked up five more runs to secure the win.

Now the Mets will visit the Nationals, who dropped their weekend series in Tampa 1-2, including a 5-0 shutout loss on Sunday. The Nats will be in the market for some payback, after getting swept by the Mets at Citi Field in June, and gradually sinking to 4th in the AL East in the final weeks of the month.
