Mark Vientos made a huge impact for the New York Mets immediately upon his return from a surprise demotion to Triple-A Syracuse earlier in the season. After waiting a month for his next big league opportunity, the 24-year-old infielder smashed a two-run homer in the 11th inning on his second day in the majors this season to give the Mets a 4-2 comeback victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, and save the Amazin’s from a series sweep.

Francisco Lindor also had a solo home run in the 6th, and the game held 1-1 at the end of nine innings to force extra innings. New York was 0 for 15 with runners in scoring position and down to its last strike when Harrison Bader singled home automatic runner DJ Stewart from third base with the tying run. Then Vientos sealed the win.

Now New York remains at Citi Field for the start of their four-game series against the Cubs, who are 17-11 following a 1-2 series against the Boston Red Sox. In Game 2 of that series, Boston ran up a soul-crushing 17-0 final score against Chicago.
