Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord was one of 63 quarterbacks named to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
The award is given out annually to the top senior or upperclassman quarterback in college football who is set to graduate within their class. The winner is selected by a committee of college football journalists, commentators, announcers, and former players.
McCord was one of 13 ACC quarterback selected to the watch list, a group that includes every quarterback the Orange will face in conference play this season.
The four ACC schools that weren’t represented by their starting quarterback were Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Virginia.
It’s the fourth preseason awards watch list that had included McCord, a collection that also includes the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and Davey O’Brien Award.
The last Syracuse player to win the Unitas Award was Don McPherson in 1987, the first year the award was presented. The last Syracuse player to be a finalist for the Unitas Award was Eric Dungey in 2018.
Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader was named to the watch list for the award last year.
