After a dominant performance in both weekend games against the Milwaukee Brewers, the New York Yankees are back on top of the American League East with a 19-10 record. But the second-place Orioles are just a game back, and have a major opportunity to take the lead.
New York scored 15 runs for two games in a row against the Brewers — 15-3 against Joe Ross on Saturday, and 15-5 against Tobias Myers on Sunday. Myers handed Anthony Volpe a three-run homer as a birthday present, but it was against the Brewers’ relievers that New York really uncorked.
The Yankees had a flurry of RBI singles, and Oswaldo Cabrera even scored on a wild pitch, amassing seven runs in the sixth inning alone for an insurmountable lead. The game was punctuated by Anthony Rizzo’s 300th career home run at the top of the 8th.
