New York and Chicago will clash for Game 2 after the Cubs took Game 1 of the four-game series 3-1 on Monday.
On Monday night, the Cubs edged out the Mets in a classic pitcher’s duel, where Mets’ starter Luis Severino carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, before Dansby Swanson finally broke it up. On the Cubs’ side, Jameson Taillon allowed just one run over more than seven innings.
Ultimately, it was celebrated Mets closer Edwin Diaz who allowed the Cubs to get their dramatic finish. Diaz fed Christopher Morel a tiebreaking two-run homer at the top of the ninth which would be all Chicago needed to secure the win.
That leaves New York 14-14 on the season, and looking to avoid slipping into the red on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, after showcasing their ability to overcome adversity, the Cubs find themselves 18-11 and in charge of the NL Central by half a game.
