Syracuse, N.Y. — The Syracuse Planning Commission is advising city lawmakers to protect a vacant mansion that Syracuse University wants to demolish.

Commissioners voted unanimously Monday night to recommend designating 727 Comstock Ave. as a locally protected site. The Syracuse Landmark Preservation Board has filed a petition for the designation, which would make demolition efforts more onerous.
