The Buffalo Bills’ depth at quarterback is being tested this summer.

Last week, the team placed Shane Buechele on the injured reserve due to a neck injury suffered against the Chicago Bears. The team will now be without Mitch Trubisky, their No. 2 quarterback, for a few weeks due to a knee injury.

With Trubisky being week-to-week and the team ruling Josh Allen and the starters out for their preseason finale on Saturday against the Carolina Panthers, the team needs to add another quarterback to their roster to play alongside Ben DiNucci.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the team has already found a new quarterback to add to the fold. The NFL insider says the team will be signing Anthony Brown Jr.

Brown went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft but would go on to sign a contract with the Baltimore Ravens. The former Oregon Ducks quarterback did not make Baltimore’s 53-man roster but was signed to their practice squad. He was eventually elevated to the main roster in December of that season and came in to play for Tyler Huntley following an injury. Brown would get his first career start in Week 18 of 2022 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He threw for 286 yards in a losing effort and committed three turnovers.

Brown did not play anywhere in 2023 but signed a reserve/future contract with the Las Vegas Raiders at the end of the 2023 season. He was recently waived by the team on August 16.

Although Brown does not have much to show in his professional career, he played plenty of football between stints at Boston College (2017-2019) and Oregon (2020-2021). During his collegiate career, Brown completed 58.4 percent of his passes for 7,891 yards with 60 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. He rushed for 1,121 yards and 15 touchdowns as well over that time.

Brown should get plenty of playing time for Buffalo on Saturday afternoon behind DiNucci. If he performs well, the Bills or another team across the league could sign the veteran to their practice squad this season.
