Two teenagers have been charged with murder in the death of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor.
Wactor was shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles in May after a night of bartending at a rooftop venue. The soap opera star allegedly came upon his car when it saw it was jacked up and asked a man underneath it if it was being towed; the man allegedly then shot him.
Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, both 18 years old, were arrested Aug. 15 and charged with murder, L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón said Monday. Both are also charged with attempted robbery and grand theft, while allegedly armed with a gun; both face life in prison if convicted.
Two others were also arrested, according to NBC News. Leonel Gutierrez, 18, is charged with attempted robbery and grand theft, also while allegedly armed, and Frank Olano, 22, is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, receiving stolen property and three counts of being a felon with a firearm.
“Johnny Wactor’s life was senselessly taken while he was simply walking to his parked car in downtown Los Angeles,” Gascón said in a statement. “We are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Wactor and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”
Wactor was best known for playing Brando, the son of Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs), in more than 160 episodes of “General Hospital.” The 37-year-old soap opera star’s credits also included “The OA,” “Station 19,” “Westworld,” “Criminal Minds,” and “NCIS.”
